Walking is an easy way to take girls on an adventure outside the unit meeting place – this Scheme will help you make the most of it!
After you’ve completed the Girlguiding Walking Scheme Level 1, you will be able to plan routes and navigate walks with girls in lowland country, including tracks and paths, fields, woods and lanes.
A Level 1 Walking Training is on offer on Sunday 10th March 2019 9.30-4 p.m. at Attingham Park near Shrewsbury.
Free entry to Attingham Park with Shropshire Guiding membership and the training is free too.
You don’t need any prior experience other than an up to date first aid/ first response qualification to start the scheme.
Some of the time will be spent in a downstairs classroom covering the things you need to know about taking groups out, where to find information on routes and maps etc.
The remainder will be practical route finding and ways to keep your girls amused while walking in the Attingham Park estate.
You will need suitable clothes and footwear for the weather and a packed lunch and hot drink, and a notebook may be useful.
The walking scheme syllabus and record book can be downloaded from the Girlguiding website (search for Walking and it comes up), it would be useful to have a copy with you at the training.
