County Information

The County is divided into 7 divisions;

  • Shropshire North
  • Oswestry
  • Shrewsbury
  • Ludlow
  • Bridgnorth
  • Telford South
  • Wrekin

Each division has a number of districts within it. We also have a County team that look after specialist areas such as outdoors, senior section and International. Run the “Area Contact Details” report on Go! to find the people who can help you.

Link to County Handbook.

We have an office in Wellington, which is not staffed and a residential property in Lyneal in the north of the County.

One of our key requirements in the County Plan is to “be seen, be heard”. This involves getting out and about in the County and showcasing what we do, but also telling others about what we do and how we do it!

Engagement of the local media is important to show that Girlguiding is still very relevant to todays young women and to showcase the good work that we are doing in the county.

To support, we have a Marketing and Communications team that can assist with requesting media presence, writing press releases etc. Don’t forget the power of social media too, you can tweet and tag us on Instagram with what you have been doing and put appropriate coverage on Facebook.

Outdoors & Duke of Edinburgh

Our rural location makes Shropshire perfect for outdoor activities. The County has many participants in the D of E programme and leaders enjoy the outdoors with their girls on day events, during unit meeting times and for residential events.

We have a campsite, Bickley Coppice belonging to Shrewsbury Division Scouts and Guides, a greenfield site that is being developed which is ideal for permit camps and quiet weekends away.

We also have a water and walking advisor who is available to support any leader wishing to gain qualifications in these areas or to give the additional skills to undertake D of E supervision.

We have National Trust membership, which covers entrance for units visiting NT venues. Please check with the venue prior to visiting, as some require a copy of the card. If you need this, get in contact with the county team.

Booking forms for events

As a County we run a number of events each year and further information on all of them can be found on our events and training page. The link below takes you to a page containing all the current booking forms.

Leadership and Mentors

For Leadership and Mentors

Documents for all leaders relating to the County can be found here. These include order forms and training location maps. A copy of the County Handbook is also available.

Peer Education

Peer Education is an opportunity for Senior Section members to share their love of Guiding with younger members, and give them confidence, knowledge and experience in a safe and fun environment.

It’s a great way to gain new skills and experiences with other Senior Section members, to improve your leadership abilities and confidence whilst promoting girlguiding in your area.

To become a Peer Educator for Shropshire all you need to do is contact the Peer Education Coordinator on the link below and take part in a Basic Training weekend where you will be shown how to run fun, effective interactive sessions for all ages. The training is free and you will be given all materials needed to run your sessions.

Guides and Brownie groups can book a Free Being Me session with their unit at a cost of £2 per girl below. This covers all the training materials and giveaways for the girls.

Badges and Challenge Badges

We have a County Badge secretary who stocks a wide range of all County badges and from whom you can order direct.

The County also has some badges to sell from the County Standard to event badges ideal for badge collectors. These are also advertised on this page.

Remember that special edition badges always sell out quickly so be sure to order in plenty of time.
